compressor run from socket!?

Basically, a matenof mine has an air compressor in his garage (hes a sprayper/panel-beater). Well the compressor is 3 phase compressor but is converted to single phase, with a 13a plug running the initial motor and then a second 13a plug supplying the second running motor. Initially, the compressor has been run from a double socket supplied on a 16a radial from an old rewireable fuseboard. The guy who rewired the socket up absolutely minced it.

My question is, can i run the compressor beings its converted to single phase off a socket on a 16a radial? Or should i use a 32a radial run with 4mm?

Havent fitted a compressor like this before so a bit stumped!

Well with all the wisdom in the world i'd struggle to give accurate answers unless you give relative power rating of compressor etc...

Sorry there's 2 x 5hp motors, working out to be 3.7Kw per motor, one acts as kind of a pony motor, starting up first with a 30 second delay on the 3ph to single phase converter kicking in the 2nd motor. Am i right in thinking that the total power rating would be 7.4Kw? Been a while since i did my HNC!? And havent really worked with motors since 2009!

So basically is the total power of the compressor is 2 x 5hp, multiply by 0.74 for Kw....

3.7kW per motor, which gives a total power of 7.4Kw.

P = VI

P = 240 x 32A

P = 7680w or 7.68Kw

Walk away would be my first option, but you also need to explain how they modified a 3 phase motor to single phase and have you confirmed the load drawn with a meter?
