Connecting a oven and hob.

Had a new kitchen fitted and have got a electrical oven and hob both have plugs so draw less than 13 amp,Ive the old cooker point outlet which I want to connect to ,can I install a double socket on this outlet to plug in the oven and hob?

If they they both came with 13A plugs and so really are under 3kW each then yes, you could simply do that.

Things to remember are sockets now ought to be on 30mA RCD protection, but your oven might already be on an RCD protected circuit in which case no problem.

Also double sockets tend to show signs of thermal stress if both sides are used a lot with big loads but if you get a decent brand then you have a good chance of it lasting.

What make are your cooking appliances ? I have not seen a hob or cooker with plug top fitted from new for a long time . All the howdens lamona range have a sticker on saying warning do no fit plug top .

Also i believe a double socket outlet max rating is 20 amps

Good point about the max rating for double sockets. In the ideal world you would fit two 13A sockets, it might be possible to replace the back-box with a "twin" instead of a double to allow that, such as these options (if the pasted link works):

However, they are wider than a double box so it would need some cutting work which could be tedious if it is already tiled (and no going back if you do go back to a normal cooker outlet)!

Is there anywhere you could fit two 13A sockets out of the way and feed them from the existing cooker switch?

That way you could use unswitched sockets out of sight but still have an accessible means of isolation, and if you ever go to a larger cooker then it is simple to restore a single high current connection.

I made a tray space between two units, put sockets at the back, if you have room that could be an answer, wont let me upload an image.
