Anyone else get fed up of explaining to friends & family why they cant do private work for them...
No other trades have to jump through as many hoops

Almost thought about paying a (part P) scheme to register work even though I am full time in Industrial Electrical work.
Unfortunately they usually talk me into it

The only excuse you can give: You're an industrial spark, and as such not allowed to sign off domestic work.
Or rewire their house with a green and red push buttons for light switches... youll never get asked again

Don’t forget the emergency stop buttons for every hard wired appliance for good measure.

Just say 'Yes' and install 600mm wide cable tray all over their house.

Haha

After 30 odd years of being a spark, in all different fields people just don't get that you can't just do it for them...

Four house rewires in forty years, I’ve done my share. Family, you get bugger all remuneration for the work but all the earache.

I dread to think how many millions of pounds of plant I’ve had under my charge, houses, you can stick it!

House re-wiring is the devils dirty work but there is something about it I just can’t say no too...

Perhaps it’s because i spent my teen age years helping to wire extensions then moved on to full rewires of old council dumps then finally onto brand new build lashing

interesting though isn’t it that as a Gold Card holder for many years we can do swimming pools, cinemas, schools etc etc but without paying some scheme we can’t do a quick board change for a friend. ?‍♂️

Why do you think I refer to part pee as a scam

homeowners can buy CUs from the likes of screwfux and bodge it and query, "install", no testing apart from the bang test, no certs., no notification, potential disaster, yet nothing is done to stop it. we, on the other hand are considered criminals for doing the job right unless we pay the niceic pension fund hundreds a year. then customers wonder why we're more expensive than the local handyman, recommended by dodgy dave the dog walker or porcelain percy wet-pants.
