Hi all
for a straight consumer change with out new circuits being added am i right in saying that you pir the installation then pirs are not notifiable hence no building controle !!!! only asked as thats what it seems says in gn3

Hey tucker.

For a c.u change you would need to use an EIC, not PIR.

ON the EIC you just fill in what you have done in the extent covered box, i.e upgrading of consumer unit and bonding etc. Then test all circuits as normal.

What he said^^^, however, you should put right any major deviations ie lack of main bonding etc.

I always carry out a PIR prior to a CU change because you never know what nasties may be lurking that may catch you out.

surely this adds more cost to the customer , what i do is explain what problems could occur ie new 17th board could start tripping or no ring continuity and put in writing any of this extra work would have to be carried out on a ttime and materials basis then your covered when all the nasties pop .

Indeed, but, as i said, any major deviations need rectifying as well.

Have always explained this to the customer and never had one turned down yet.

Especially if the install looks like its been altered or is reasonably old.

its a good point id say both ways work just as well, as in my case estimate to install bonding and replace c.u, inform client you would then carry out a test on the whole of the installation and issue a report of its condition with an estimate for cost of repairs if any .
