Hi, recently changed ccu from rewirable too modern dual rcd type. No probs with test results etc, only prob gas and water bonded with 6mm, wiring in old colours etc. But customer does not want walls ripping too bits too solve . Should i use EIC and put these items in (departures from bs7671) or PIR and give items the correct codes. thanks

Poking around the red book I find reg 131.8

Additions and alterations to an installation

No addition, temporary or permanent, shall be made to an existing installation, unless it has been ascertained that the RATING AND CONDITION of any EXISTING equipment, including that of the distributor, will be adequate for the altered circumstances. Furthermore, the earthing and bonding arrangements, if necessary for the protective measure applied for the safety of the addition or alteration, SHALL BE ADEQUATE.

It can also have implications for things like the dispensing with supp bonding in bathrooms which requires that the main bonding is fully up to scratch.

Have you got <0.05 ohms for each of them? not actually sure of the technical reasons for the BS7671 increase in bonding conductor size (has there been a rise in expected P.E.F.C.s?) but if they satisfy the 50 miliohm requirement why change them out.

Leave bonds as is, make a note in the deviations comment box on cert (not ideal but hey what can you do).

Supply customer with a letter/dissclaimer about undersized main equip bonds,
(could also give them a print off of the niceic bonding leaflet, they may say do it then )
You get customer to counter sign a copy of the letter & file it with the cert.

You have to issue an EIC, periodic is not the one to use for the installation of a cu.
