Quoting earlier today for extra light in bathroom, checked CU, lighting is not on RCD half of board. Pointed out issue to client and discussed it, i.e. bathroom lights need to be moved to RCD protected circuit or otherwise RCD protected if I am to do the work, client says "Oh, the electric shower circuit is disconnected, can you use that?". This is on the RCD half of the board so seems promising (fused down either at board or prior to drop in cable size, and tested before being put back into service, obviously). Customer goes in loft, reappears with old shower wire in hand with bare conductors at end and proceeds to grab the bare copper with his hands. Only thing stopping it from being live is the MCB is off (not locked off) at the CU. Customer has not specifically checked this prior to grabbing the cable. Don't know whether that was scarier or the cable being left in that condition and energisable. Amazed he didn't trip the RCD with a E-N short.

Hi,
Had something similar sometime ago. Went into my neighbours property to look at a central heating problem. Put my hand into a cupboard rummaging through the junk, got one hell of a belt. When the immersion was disconnected the cable flex supplying it had been left in the cupboard LIVE. Bl***y plumbers.

Regards.
