Slightly odd one that, normally if the control unit is operative then the lights come on regardless of what is connected.
Firstly is your room thermostat set high enough to allow the heating to come on?
Have you tried changing the operation from programming to ON, it is not likely to work since + 1 hr does not work, but worth a try.
If that fails then (after taking note of the programmed dates /times and ensuring you have the instructions) press the select,advance,+,- at the same time to clear the entire memory and then check manual operation, if this then works, re-program the times and dates and you are away.
All this is assuming that there are no other problems with the central heating that may mean the system is held off, but not normally the case.
Failing that your controller has died, usually a burnt out relay or circuit board.
