I am looking to do some short courses, in either Data Cabling, Fire Alarms and Emergency Lighting etc. Has anyone done any of them in the North West. Unfortunately Trade Skills 4U don’t do the Data Cabelling. But I’m looking at them as an added bonus whilst I’m looking for work and doing my L3 2365.

Any help would be great.

To be honest you don't need a course in Data Cabling, just ask on here about runs, equipment, hardware and tools, you can practice at home, in a time far far away I learnt my skills "on the job" and was installing dealing rooms in the City.

Right okay, what equipment would I need?

The most important are a pair of crimpers and a punchdown tool for 110 connectors.

When you get in to the world of fault finding then it's another level and a major expense.

Why do you want to go down this route, domestic data cabling, office fit outs or you have nothing better to do ;o))))

I’m just looking for work at the moment preferably full time. So because I have a background in IT. I thought it could be an option. I will have a look at the tools. Any form of experience doing electrical would be great at the moment.

If you have a background in IT then you should know about patching, cable runs setting up racks, cable management and how to terminate cables its all basic stuff, I was in IT for 25 years.

I was in Development for 8 years. But studied IT at college.
