Dc isolators

Hi guys
Is it possible to use 2 strings through one isolator. For example 2 no 820v strings..trying to clear up a disagreement. 1000v isolators used. Thanks in advance and when is 3rd edition of the pv guide coming out ???

Yes, you can. Personally I would use two isolators, but there is nothing wrong with using one for two strings.

yes you can. IMO do a 4 pole DC isolator for 2 strings which also doesn't use interconnectors to get seperation.

as long as it's within the manufacturers specs - k&E have a sheet on their site that details the specs for each isolator for single and 2 strong operation - we always give it plenty of leeway with them, if in doubt use the next size up (technically I believe ampage & voltage +20% is the recomendation)

yes, we nearly fell for it! Fortunately I'm in the habit of reading the instructions on any new item even if it looks straightforward, and also buzzed it through to confirm (people do look at me a bit odd sometimes when I sit reading the instructions for a bathroom light, but sometimes it pays dividends! Actually, maybe they are just looking at me a bit odd for other reasons!)

It's logical enough when you realise whats going on.

We have used the four pole ones from IMO (Andy at Sibert) however despite it appearing to save money / time on installs we've gone back to using one isolater per string. - Reason, it makes maintenance and fault finding a lot lot easier. We have lots of sites out there with 15 - 30 strings and halving the number of isolators seemed like a good idea, so despite using them I still remain to be convinced..

I haven't done any installs that big but it hasn't been a problem, in fact it made things easier when we had a string not outputting, only one cover to take off! It savers space time and money so on double strings I always use them. Maintainance hasn't been an issue, as there hasn't needed to be any.
