Hi guys im just looking for some advice. I was hoping to wire some standard halogen floodlights up to a normal household plug. I was thinkink of placing these pointing in an upwards direction inside a marquee that i am decorating, the floods themselves would be covered with a suitable colour theatrical gel to give a wall wash effect. I have attempted this as a trial but the 500w bulb gets very hot, would there be a major difference if i reduced the buld wattage to say a 150w ????? Difference in heat and intensity????

yeah totally, dont think it matters what size bulb you use, if its halogen bulb it needs to operate at, at least 250 c (they way there designed) so id defo get summat else.
how about some sort of nice led style lighting??

What you need to do with the halogen is create something in front of, (not to close if its combustable.

One technique is to light objects in front of the surface so that it stands out in silhouette. A coloured heavy glass dish may work, but you will have to design something to hold the dish in place. Led's are not good for floodlighting.
