Hello,

I have a quick question...I have been asked if the compressor on a fridge requires dedicated bonding to the body of the fridge? Currently they are not and they pass electrical testing. Does it actually require earthing to the body?

Thank you

Hi - are you saying the compressor is connected to E and the metal fridge frame is connected to this somehow, but you can't see an actual earthing conductor joining the two? Or ...

I guess what i am saying is, does the compressor require a dedicated earth to the fridge body? currently they do not have dedicated earth bonding, and the fridges pass the earth bond tests all the time

EDIT:
and thank you for your responses too

Is this how they are manufactured.

What testing regime is the fridge passing?
FYI i am using a pat tester, and i usually stick the earth bond cable on a pipe on the compressor as its the easiest pace to get a good connection
Then test using the fridge body to prove the earth bond

the fridge is passing the earth bond test, its passing the load test and the insulation tests.

I have used the fridge body before and they pass, its just it was easier to use a compressor pipe.

ill use the body next time (usually on a screw used for bonding a lid to the fridge)

Good man

would the earth bond test fail if the compressor was not earthed? is the compressor not earthed through the earthing on the power cable?
Most fridges will be connected via a 13Amp plug and the earth continuity linked to all metal parts, at least they should be.

so performing the earth bond test on the compressor pipe confirms its earthed, and doing it to the fridge body confirms the body is earthed. does that mean it doesn't need a dedicated earth bond from the body of the compressor to the fridge body?

Where does the flex from the plug connect to on the fridge?

Where does the flex from the plug connect to on the fridge? Not sure what you mean by a "dedicated earth" all metalwork on the fridge should be earthed via the flexible lead connecting it to the socket.
