I recently visited a restoration project which is massive in scope, and being carried out mainly by volunteers.
During the tour I was intrigued to see some different approaches to cabling, but when I enquired I was told that Juan did this room, Pedro did that room etc etc...so there is no consistency in approach. To be fair, I saw lots of plastic conduit, adaptable boxes, flexicon etc but some of the installations were "interesting"...

Yes, the rope-effect cabling is quite attractive and apparently used quite a lot when replacing older versions of fabric covered cable. The porcelain supports/insulators were very commonly used for those cables, especially when feeding light fittings where the cable ran along wooden ceiling beams.
As for the copper pipe conduit, I like how they switched from 22mm to 15mm and smaller as they transitioned from switch to light.
For those who didn't guess, pic 5 is an old pedal-powered dental drill...
