Dimmer Switch ?

Hi all, im a bit embaressed to ask this one, as im City and Guilds qualified ! :-

Is it ok to fit a dimmer switch to control a ceiling light that has a transformer fitted in it ??
The light in question has 4 x halogen capsule bulbs in it, that are low voltage.

depends if the tranny is "dimmable" or not rotary dimmer is less likely to be suitable than an electronic dimmer

Yes, but make sure you get a dimmer that will dim transformers, and make sure said transformer is dimable type. Usually says on tranny.
