i bought a 1000 watt dimmer for an installation and when i came to test i was getting a rediculously high r1+r2 (about 8ohms). after checking all connections i changed the dimmer for a normal switch test readng was fine 0.3ohms. does anyone else have probs like this with dimmers. before any one asks the dimmer was turned right up. i wasted 4 hours of my life over this effin switch

you cant treat the dimmer like you would a normal switch i.e turn it on and take yout R1 R2 without joining the wires in the switch.. it is an electronic device and even with it turned fully 'on' there is nothing to say that part of the internal electronics of the dimmer won't stilll be in circuit and creating the high reading. If i saw the 8 ohms then i would remove the dimmer, join wires in the switch and carry out the test again. prob solved
