I am looking for a good way to dim incandescent lightbulbs.

I do not want the normal Triac dimmers that you buy at the store that work by cutting the duty phase. These cause flickering, cause humming, reduce the lifespan of the bulb, and do not dim below a high threshold.

I also do not want the old rheostat dimmers that draw the full amount of electricity and burn it off as heat.

Every method of dimming I have read about follows one of those two patterns. Isn't there something better? I would like to see something like PWM paired with a capacitor in order to achieve constant current draw. Is that possible? I am open to using AC or DC if that's what it takes.

Thank you.

All ac incandescent lamps flicker to some degree, this is made worse by cheep dimmers that have a low frequency switching.
If you want pure flicker free lighting, dc is the way to go.
