Hi,

A full rewire of a house was quoted and 4m of red and black was used of a ring to supply kitchen and garage. I’ve been told that the cable was tested with a 1000v insulation measurement meter and a decision was made to utilise the cable to make it compline with the 19th.

Is this all okay? It feels odd that they didn’t just replace the cable!

Thanks!

If I decide it makes sense to re-use a cable in a rewire, my own approach is
1) IR test it (as you said they did, and testing at 1000V is a little over the top but is still valid)
2) make damned sure there are no joint boxes or junctions in it
3) tell the customer, to avoid any confusion, or even worse them assuming an older looking cable can be cut through later

If it's only 4m of cable it probably isn't worth a major upset, and one would like to think there was a good reason why it was left in place. Would it have been easy to replace?

Thanks Tim. It would have been easy to replace. All floors were accessible as it was a full rewire and refurb of a house.

Seems very odd to not replace 4m of easily replaced cable when doing a full rewire. @verve01 how did you find out cable hadn't been replaced and what type of cable is it?
