Hi, anyone had the pleasure of having the DNO fit an isolator between the cutout and the consumer unit? I'd be grateful to hear of the costs involved
and the amount of time it takes them to sort it. As we all know, only the DNO can pull the bomb so i'm curious as to costs of an isolator. While i'm at it, anyone aware of problems with the smart meters shutting down if the main bomb is pulled, just curious obviously.

if the meter is one of the modern digital ones theres an inbuilt isolator on some, its a slotted device on the front

Is this the thing on the underneath that says "not to be used as a main isolator" or something? Makes me wonder what its for if not.

Hi,

I had an isolater fitted recently. I was told it would cost £110, I said that was too much so they rang back the next day and said £65 which I agreed to.

Cant quite remember but I think they came out within a couple of weeks (but only after 2 additional phone calls to push them along a bit and remind them).

This must be a couple of months ago now and no bill so far, so I dont actually think they are going to charge :smiley2:.

This was Western Power Distribution. I expect the service and cost varies greatly depending on the DNO.

Good luck..

The contractor switches your referring trip down if the meter goes too far into debt, but I believe they are single pole that is why you can't use them for isolation purposes.

SSE did two for me recently, both for free as they changed out old dial-type meters for electronic ones at the same time. Had another one quoted at £65.

don,t be silly archy, the slot your referring to is where scousers poke the wire from a piezo-electric sparker to kill the meter, one "click" meter display and electronics dead free power

theres a circular flush switch built into the front of SOME digital meters
it has a slot
all u need to do is, using a flat bladed screwdriver- turn it counter clockwize to isolate the supply
i have in the past

I was quoted 115 from Scottish power. Although we have a company called iqa that do all of ours in work. Might be worth seeing if u can get an approved subby in who could maybe do it cheaper? Weve Had a lot of problems with the switches tho. Think there abit of an un necessary addition/fire risk IMO. Heard a rumour sp/sse etc are bringing out new meters that incorporate a dp isolator so that we can renew DBS/tails without cutting seals.??

Think we are missing the point here DNO's should fit one as a matter of course when fitting a new meter But hold on that's too much like common sense plus you cannot charge for it

The new smart meter logs any time it loses power and for how long so if someone starts to fiddle it it brings up when it lost power and for how long, and I would assume they keep a record of power cuts in each area so they can check against these lists if they think someones been at it.

I think you'll all be surprised just how little these new DNO's do actually record. Your more likely find how many records they have actually ''lost'' or mislaid since taking over from the old regional boards, who's records were pretty good!! lol!!

my meter with inbuilt iso
