Do I need a certificate?

Morning,
I live in a rental property and when I moved in I fitted an outside socket. Was an easy job as it was fitted at the other side of the wall to a kitchen socket so I just took it from the kitchen circuit.
The landlord has said he requires it registering and a certification providing.
Is this correct as it has only been fitted using an existing circuit?

Don't think it is a notifiable job as it did not require a new circuit am sure someone will put me right if I've misunderstood that one though. I would say it he owns the property though he's perfectly entitled to want to see that any work has been done to a decent a compliant standard that may be where he's coming from on this one.

As an edit each job should at least have a minor works certificate so you should be able to show him that with test readings on it of course

Thanks, was told I may need the job registering somewhere and a certificate providing because it's classed as a special location. Not sure if that is correct or not.

I believe it's not notifiable any more because it's not a new circuit but you do need some testers and a minor works certificate otherwise your still on a sticky wicket

Ok thanks. Just advise me what sort of cost that should be if I ask an electrician to do that for me. I don't know what that involves and don't want to get ripped off just to get a certificate. Thanks

If your outside socket was on a flex and simply plugged into the kitchen socket, it wouldn’t need any cert.

I was going to suggest exactly what @littlespark wrote.
Otherwise, if you find someone near you to test/certify it they may not charge callout.
Is the circuit the socket is connected to RCD protected?

Just a point of technicality..... as it's non-notifiable there's nothing to prevent the OP from producing their own MWC based on the model forms.

As an aside it will be difficult to issue cert after the event, as the tester will need to see evidence of how the install was installed in the first place, that's how I see it anyway, others may disagree.
