earth return C40A 12v for lister or petter engine for a boat we think, we could do with a specific application, thank you in advance.

Looks like an old car generator, sort used before alternators

That is an industrial spec dynamo. No open sections,for cooling,so reduced output.
Most of what that fit,has been scrapped or had an alternator grafted on...

Still got a box of bits and tools,from when i was a kid,for setting and adjusting the regulators on these set-ups...the whir,of a pulley spinning on battery current,after a belt snap....the smell of glass paper on hot contacts...

...Now we've got load shedding,and alternators that only output current on overun....nowts really changed...

reminds me of my old 1953 Matchless 500. dynamo to charge battery, magneto for the spark. both were chain driven.

It’s an ordinary Lucas dynamo, any numbers on it?

Another use is as a shunt wound DC motor.
