Does anyone know where this red wire goes..it came out and I have no idea where to put it...it's a rose on my landing ???

It's going nowhere until the rose is replaced. Those brass terminal blocks should be within a plastic housing that has broken off, not floating about where they can cause a short-circuit. Sorry, it's nadgered (that's the technical term). It was even missing a screw the last time it was installed, hence so many neutrals being in one terminal.

When it's replaced, it looks like it's the switched line, if the black in the same cable as the floating red is not used. It's a non-standard arrangement of cables that might also indicate the presence of a borrowed neutral, which can lead to a shock hazard as a lighting circuit that appears isolated might not be. I recommend isolating all lighting circuits while this is rectified, until proven otherwise, not just the circuit that controls this light.

There are several things wrong there, was a light fitting fitted on top of the rose base? If so you need a circular drywall box and some wagos, and an electrician to put it all together.

Yeah..there's two lights on the landing and it isn't working now

In which case it is likely that the floating red is a switched line to the other light. If so, it came from the same terminal as the black that connects to the brown core of this light's flex. That black should have had a red sleeve to indicate it's a switched line. Needs re-doing properly though...

(Also in that case, there's no particular reason to suspect a borrowed neutral.)

That would make sense as the black also came out...must have been a loose screw...thanks for all your help people....

Problem solved....by now....by the looks.
I wonder if there is a circuit earth, it looks oldish. Hope there's a double insulated fitting going up.
