Hi all,
installed a door bell, transformer and chime. Door bell on front door, ran door bell cable on outside of house (7m), underground in conduit (2m), through garage (7m (near power cable)), through conduit with power cable (4m), into summer house (4m), connectectd to chime and then connected chime to transformer.
Door bell rings but has a loud buzzing/ interferance sound immediately as door bell chimes and lasts for a second or 2.
Anyone got any ideas as to why or how to get rid of the noise. i thought it might be due to the power cables in close proximaty. however tried it at home similar cable distance and no power cables and still the same issue.
Any ideas?

Sounds like a dodgy chime if you've ruled out interference.

Well the common denominator would be the chime, the distance. 20 odd meters is it in bell wire ? try and use a 1mm^ flex if you have any, if that don't work then as the IQ says Chime

try extending one of the legs of the bell wire, sometimes the internal interferance can be transmitted through the cable. this is why telecomms cable is twisted in pairs, one cable is slightly longer than the other so as to reduce noise siganl on transmission down cable. This may or may not work, however it is worth a try?

Long run for bell wire or twisted pair would try a lenth of 1.5 just run it through the rooms to join the units before ya start running cable in conduit. When i install door Bell/intercoms all the intructions now specify 1.5 after 18m runs.....just telling you what they recommend, not saying its right or wrong.
