Hi guys I'm relatively new to the electrical trade just want to know why do we use double pole switches I know they cut off both line and neutral but why do we use them for shower circuit, ovens, jobs, fridges, microwaves, and not use single pole ??

Basically it is an additional safety feature so in the (hopefully) unlikely case of L & N polarity reversed, or an open-neutral fault, the act of switching off to isolate really is doing that when something serious has gone wrong.

Also if you have a split RCD style of board (or TT with delay RCD incomer) then it helps locate N-E faults and avoids them causing too much grief until fixed, but that is a side-benefit and not the primary reason.
