Hi

I have seven Sylvania fire rated IP65 downlights fitted in my bathroom.

I want to cover them with loft insulation.

The instructions for the Sylvania downlights, shows a line diagram with loft insulation going over and on top of the fire hoods.

I telephoned Sylvania and they confirmed it is OK to put loft insulation going over and on top of the fire hoods.

I have found a fire hood and I have enclosed a picture of it. This exact same design is sold through a few online suppliers and on ebay.

However when I spoke to one supplier, she told me the loft insulation should go around the side of the fire hood and not on top of the fire hood.

Can I please ask electricians if the fire hood in the picture is OK for loft insulation to go over and on top of this type of fire hood?

She also mentioned there are no clearances to allow for inside the fire hood when it is fitted over the downlight. I am assuming if there were clearances then it would say on the instructions provided with the fire hood.

Thanks for your help.

Are the downlights LED or halogen?

Then I'd say it wouldn't matter either way, you could insulate over the top or not, it would be your call. They're already fire rated fittings plus you're putting a fire hood over them which is belt and braces.

OK thanks!

The bulbs that originally came in the box with the downlights were halogen, but I decided to fit LED bulbs instead.

seems like the KKK are now into cubism.

Respect due for combining right-wing ideology with a Picassos' defining battle with impressionism,to create a mocking infliction on a piece of luminary protection...:icon12:
