Morning chaps,

Working for myself as an electrician, been self employed for about six months now. I'm currently not with an approved contractor scheme and am putting all notifiable jobs through building control which is being a real pain in the arse. Also, I have missed out on some lucrative jobs with local builders because Im not registered with NICEIC. Going through the criteria for joining, and am nearly there on the administration side, Ive had C&G 2391 for a few years and Im confident in my work. Looking at the literature requiremets though and you need BS 5266-1 (Emergency Lighting) and also BS5839-1 (Fire Alarms). The cost of all the other books and thse two comes home at a nice £440, with the standards being most expensive.

Does anyone have a downloadable version of the two sets of standards or a second hand set for sale, as ive tried e-bay to no avail and im trying to keep my outgoings down at the moment as work is drying up fast. Couple this figure with the NICEIC joining and exam fees and your'e looking at the best part of £1600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just so you can do the job you've been doing for the last eleven years!!!!!! Dont get me started!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Pease help! Stress levels are rising quickly!!!!

I think the NIC only require those books if you are going for their 'Approved Status' rather than the Domestic Installer'.

DI's only need the basics, the same as all the schemes.

I know mate im goin for approved status, in for a penny in for a pound and all that!;)

Managed to get the two documents from a builder friend of mine, thatnks for the advice all the same!
