I've had a look at a dual tariff meter for someone as they believe it has been wired wrong, due to receiving incredibly high bills.

It it should have a standard supply for the flat power and a lower rate for an electric heating board. When I had a look, there are 5 terminals rather than the usual 4. I'm pretty sure the first 4 are like normal, and the 5th should be the lower rate tariff supply. I haven't actually used one of these meters before but it looks to me like that's the way it should be, I just want to check if anyone can confirm that for me?

I'll try and put some pictures up later to help.

a dual tariff meter should aotomatically switch between rates. there should be 2 meter readings. 1 for normal time and 1 for off peak.

That meter is integral, is there a cable in the 5th,? which will be your switched load on off peak, however the whole meter ie terminal 4 will go over onto E7 as well. 2 rates day and night, rate 1 normally day and rate 2 night. Should have T which are the 2 rates totaled together.

No the 5th terminal is empty. The tails from the 4th terminal go to the main board, and the heating boar supply is doubled up there. Surely this 5th terminal should supply the heating board?

The supplier said they had put in a meter for this purpose. It is an electric boiler as well, not storage heaters so needs to be live all the time. Might be economy ten supply?

either way, the supplier said they installed this meter so the heating could be on a separate tariff to the rest, the idea was not to have it cheaper over the night.

Yes, it should go on to T5, other wise storage heating, water heaters will be on day usage, hence the high bill, call the enegy supplier out to change that off peak perm live tail to T5.
