Whole lot easier (and safer) than doing series measurments on live circuits.
Use a Cr*plins clamp meter c/w basic multimeter for the occasional motor and checks on actual versus stated current consumption on kit that's tripping say a marginally rated breaker. I love it. Use it as a glorified 'bell set' in preference to my better multimeter just because it's so easy to clip it on somewhere conventient when testing. D/B chassis, tails, overalls, trouser pocket etc.
Nowhere near enough resolution for earth leakage monitoring though. You gets what y' pay for.

Had a look at buying a earth leakage clamp a while back. £335.00 plus VAT. The money is still in my account:D
