At a domestic property today I noticed the earthing had been "upgraded" with a water/gas pipe earthing clamp used on the incoming cable, see below.

Earthing clamp Earthin - EletriciansForums.net

I seem to recall earth clamps need to apply equal pressure all round, to avoid a risk of puncturing the insulation.
I was there to do something else on an outbuilding supply, noticed this because I looked in the main house meter cupboard.

I assume a DNO does not take a kind view of these DIY "improvements", assuming that is what it is? Comments?

Looks like a standard electricians connection, only not particularly acceptable, east mids area used to allow this, don't know of other areas.
try contacting DNO for earth terminal, but usually they don't want to supply one unless in can be TNCS or TT, as dealing with the high amount of earth leakage becomes their problem

looking at the pic it appears that there is the stub of the original TN_S connection. ring DNO to re-instate a proper earth connection. as it's been cut off, they may charge,

Thanks for the replies. I was there to look at a problem on a circuit on a DB in an outbuilding, just happened to notice this in the main house. It is a rental property, and I've not been asked to do any work in the main house and don't need to do anything about it if it is not dangerous. But I too would not want to be tightening up the clamp. Zs at the origin of the outbuilding sub-board is 0.16 Ohm, not measured Ze at this point.
