I have serious issues with most of these "management" training schemes - they very often are nothing more than "ideal world" scenarios that assume you have bottomless pockets of money, all the tools, qualifications, and skill available, and **** smells like roses.
Management today is very little like the picture they present in any respect, as any one of us "out there doing it" can testify.
The reality of what we're dealing with is far more along the lines of insufficient funds, late or no paying customers, staff who can't be bothered to take pride in their work, or want to rely on health and safety as an excuse, guys who think it's okay to take short cuts, and customers who feel the cheapest price will get the the same or better job than our price, which according to them is taking the piscuit.
Then we're dealing with guys who just sling half a job in and vanish, having taken £500 cash, no questions, no certs.
No management course will touch that lot.
Don't get me wrong, every job is not that way, and nor do most of us suffer fools in our employ, but it all happens.
To be very honest, I'd far rather we had a sub-section in business which was dedicated to getting guys around specific business issues - I am very sure that co-operatively a core of us here have both seen the issues and dealt with them. For one, my PM Box is open for anyone who needs advice if I can give it.
