Hi there was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice with EICR testing. I am a qualified electrician and am a compotent person who has my 17th edition. I am carrying out an EICR for a friend of mines but I am not NICIEC registered. Is this still okay or do I need to be registered to this organisation. Will the test be a valid test and will it be okay to pass. Surely if a competent electrician carries out a thorough test then that should be enough???

Can anyone please clarify this for me??

Peridiodic testing and reporting requires competence at the most basic level. No membership to any organisation is needed.
Specific training and qualification in inspection and testing, and specific experience is preferable.

Any competent person can carry out and issue an EICR.
However it may be that the organisation which requires the EICR, will only accept one from persons registered with one of the Competent Person's schemes?
You need to find out why the EICR is required, and check with the Insurance company or Local Authority, as to whether they will accept your report.
