Hello, I have been working as an apprentice electrician for the last 2 years but have recently left my job and I have just been offered another job as a trainee electrical service engineer who will be carrying out electrical repairs on domestic appliances. Does anybody know anything about this type of work or what qualifications I will be working towards and how long it takes to attain them.
I have recently just finished my 2nd year of a 3 year 2330 course and I really do not want these 2 years to go to waste if they cannot be applied to service engineer job.

you will probably need your 17th and probably 2377 (make sure you get BOTH parts!)

you will need to learn a bit of electronics

I dont think your college will have gone to waste. but you would benefit from doing something like Mechatronics, as you will need to learn more about motors and motor control, actuators, sensors, and basic comms systems

shakeys the man when it comes to qualifications ,but are you sure you want to specialise in domestic appliances ?can someone tell him his career prospects and potential future earnings ?
i know there are specialists in all areas but how profitable is this one ?

too ne honest, the jobs i have looked at for domestic appliance repair are crap, literally minimum wage

you get a big list of jobs and have to rattle through at a fair old rate

and these days, thees much less skill in it, its all board changes, you wont repair anything - motors will tend to be changed rather than changing brushes

still, a job is a job, good luck with it
