2012 Japanese Nussan AD Van

On turning ignition switch, seatbelt, warning and airbag dash lights only.
No starter turnover
No accessories
Battery dead (4 to 6 volts)
Clicking of starter even with ignition switch off.
Clicking of starter even with both ignition cables plugged out at stearing wheel.
Clicking stops when battery disconnected.

NB.
Attempts to troubleshoot abandonned overnight. Then on first try this morning, the rest of the dash lights flashed on, faint horn, faint headlights - all brief. Then went back to situation described above.

first option is to get battery tested, then chech for poor connections and alternator output.
