Electrical wire connectors help please

Hi

Have bought led kitchen lights with extension cabling. Is it possible to snip the connectors in the picture off and just solder the led light to the longer cable?

If you mean cut the two plugs off and solder the wires together then I see no problem. I would personally keep the plug and socket though in case replacement is ever necessary.

Make sure you get the polarity right. Plug them together and mark one wire on each side of the join.
Your lights won’t work if you cross them over.

Hi guys that's great thank you. I was worried the plug parts did something to alter the current or something and I'd end up soldering the wires together and destroying the light. As you say I'll mark up the cables from each plug on one side before I chop them so I don't cross them over. Then am I ok to solder and heat shrink the joins and call it job done?

Yep. Solder and heatshrink and all is good. Remember to slide the heatshrink on first. We've all done it

Don't know if I'm being thick here... but, why cut off the plug and socket merely to have to solder the wires back together again? What's the point/to be gained?

I see. Personally I'd use e.g. Wago connectors in case you have to replace the lights or LED drivers in the future; they would also ensure insulation from each other.

If you do decide to cut and solder the cables, stagger the joints so A - it will not short out, and B - will be a neater job.

Did think about this but the lights look very fragile so I’d rather mess with the wire away from them.

When you have one of these then as often as possible........
