Hi All,

seen an install that another company has carried out who have put emergency lighting on their own mcb instead of the lighting mcb on that floor. Is this allowed? There is a main rcd switch but if its a short it will trip lighting mcb and not activate emergency lighting? Also they did not get a cert so i was going to do a periodic on them but had a few questions with the test sheet fro easycert. D you need to have a light testequipment also is deviations for any faults found and what is the categories of operation etc part?

no contactors used just mcbs on rcd.i guessing they should be linked together with lights.

the categories of operations are for duration of standby lighting and type of luminaries/system used etc, deviations are like departures on an eic cert, they are not intended for faults, deviations must still be safe!

you can use a light meter for lux measurements but this is not recommended as its hard to be accurate, it would be better to get the manuf and model of the lights and download a spacing table from dialux/relux online

i would be sure you know what your doing before doing this periodic, the electricians guide to emergency lighting is a good start and then there is also bs5266 which is essential really
