Emergency lighting test -pricing

I have been asked to submit a quotation to carry out emergency lighting pir's for a chain of medium sized shops at various locations throughout Scotland .could anyone give me an idea of typical pricing for this as it is the first time I have had to quote for em testing only .

fixed price would be best but there are multiple shops all over .any ideas for a cost .
id assume an hour or two for traveling and three hours on the job for testing ,

any ideas ,do you do anything similar

Come on , yous no doubt are qualified electricians when you are sent to test em lighting , you pick your time that suits and carry out the tests.. End of . You ain't designing it, which requires le more knowledge and experience... Or tell me how I'm wrong and il take it on the gob.

Because of full duration discharge,testing times are one of 2 choices,time of minimum risk or alternate fittings discharged

These can be life critical installations,so although they can be done by us average sparks with a copy of 5226,I believe it may be wise to either specialise in fire alarm and EM lighting or leave it to those who do

Well I'm sorry des for speaking back to knowledgeable guy like yourself but I don't think trade should be divided, it's a sparks job . And although I don't have any certificates to say I have some knowledge of em lighting there's guides all over web although the 1 day course is advisable with proper insurance in place . Peace.

I did mean it was just my opinion.

I perhaps should have worded it as "my own actions"

I have no problem with any trained spark such as yourself doing any work such as this, as long as he is armed with the right tools,ie the Bs standard

I "personally" would freel uneasy about doing so. because I believe I have great gaps in my own understanding of the standard

I wouldn't for one moment doubt your capability to do this work

There is no need for any specialist involvement here, but if you're going to take on a job that has it's own set of regulations outside of BS7671, then you best be knowledgeable of those regulations!! Or be prepared to face the consequences if it's found that you haven't conformed to those regulations.

Far too many think that the only regulations an electrician needs to apply in his day to day working life is BS7671, Unfortunately they couldn't be more Wrong!!

It's an expensive book yeah.. I wouldn't dream of designing one at present, well I would give it a go but I wouldn't sell it. ... Anytime my old boss mentioned em lighting, it was go test and fix everything that doesn't pass, so there's obviously a lot I don't even know.. I'm going todo the course.. Do t know about buying the book .<<<cheap skate..

The BS5266 is not just for designing, it is also recommendations for service and testing. and should be tested a minimum of twice per year with a 1 hour discharge, and 1 test being fully 3 hour discharge of all em lighting (iom should still be old 4 times per year) This method is to recycel the nicad batteries by discharging and recharging...any other proceedure for testing such as quick 30 minute tests will actually damage the batteries, by nicad memory effect, where the batteries will never again charge to full capacity.

If it's already been designed and installed and the building use has not changed it's not going I be difficult to test the install is still adequate. Grab a copy of the the relevant BS Though as I once did its quote east reading actually compared to 7671!

As we have all tried to say here, there is nothing wrong with any spark carrying out EM testing, but the key is Period checking and Duration times...but there are still other proceedures to follow, Em log book, Em numbering, onsite period testing, off site contractor testing. So we need BS 5266 to design and service it, BS7671 to install it, and our safety at work act to enforce it....
