I am considering fitting a car charger using 6mm SWA to a new isolator switch in the meter cupboard and then 6mm T&E to the CU. It would save running the SWA all the way to the CU. Does anyone else do this and if so, which isolator is best for SWA? Thanks

All depends on which charger, some require RCD protection others do not and a double pole MCB would be suited. assuming you need type a rcd protection then the best option would be a double pole RCBO
I often install ev chargers by splitting the tails in the meter cabinet using a henley block, then fit a small consumer unit/ din rail enclosure with the most appropriate protective device ie RCBO, DP MCB or Main switch and SP/MCB all depends on the install, space and charger. I vary it as sometimes the preferred enclosure is not available or space tight so use what suppliers have.
A pitfall is to check if customer will be getting a smart meter fitted, if so ensure you leave space in the cabinet, not usually a problem if you plan it well and keep the tails tidy, flexi 19 strand tails are your best friend in this case.

in reply to your original post, 6mm may be ok, we dont know the load yet so cant comment.
there is no problem using twin and earth to an isolator and then swa after that.
just do your calcs for the two runs separately.
obviously ensuring that the total vd is within limits and that your earth will be sufficient (earth with armour or spare core? also remember that twin and earth has a reduced size cpc)
