Discuss Extend T&E Ring in Back Box in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I think you said it was a huge back box so plenty of room.
By the way, if you ever have this situation with a 25mm box and too many cables, you can get a 10mm socket spacer and matching socket e.g. Schneider Electric which gives you an extra cm to play with. More of a last resort than a go-to solution.
In circumstances where one leg of a ring is jointed, would 24A connectors be suitable or should they be meet the full circuit rating?
The other day I encountered a ring final circuit in a church vestry wired in 2L1.5 MICC (so 1.5mm conductors) on a B32 breaker, clipped direct. It briefly threw me as I've generally encountered more radial MICC circuits. They must have had plenty of spare cash to make it a ring!
Anyway, same answer in fact - it's rated at over 20A for that installation method so meets the single reg about ring circuits.

I will have a look at those. I will see how I get on with the Wagos. Shame that I’ve also bought the Ideal Push Wire Connectors. But they maybe worth keeping. What’s the best way to trim 3.5mm terminal screws?

Where you have space, IME Wago 222 (grey body, orange lever) are the most effective and reliable connector for 2.5mm² solid. The 221 (clear body, orange lever) is a more recent design with a slimmer profile and available in two sizes. 4 and 6mm² max cable respectively, the larger type also having a higher rating of 41A. I have found the cable retention slighrly less effective than the 221 but I wouldn't say I have actual concerns about their performance, only that I have consistently found the 222 indestructible.

The push-wire 773 types designed for 2.5mm² max I personally would not choose for an RFC, They are rated at 24A which is sufficient, but unless there is an absolute limitation on space, I prefer to use a connector with a more generous rating, such as the 32A 222 or the larger (red insert) push-wire type 773-173. The latter takes up to 6mm² and is rated for 41A so its specs are the same as the 221 but it is physically larger.

Tel mentioned butt crimps with specific reference to the quality of terminal and tool and this is very important. Many general purpose types that you buy over the counter without a specification are not suitable for solid conductors and likely to make an inferior connection. TBH I never use them in this application at all.
