We are planning to have external electrical sockets fitted in our courtyard patio area. We would like to have flush sockets installed so that they are not protruding from the wall, where people might bang their legs on them. Our electrician says that he has never come across them before and isn't sure that they are even such a thing or where we might be able to buy them from? I have had an initial look on good old Google but its not really helping!
I thought that I would ask for your advice as hopefully some of you have used them before?
Thanks in advance for your advice/help.

They don't stick out far. Shouldn't be a problem unless it's a very narrow walkway.

Its not a narrow walkway but we have elderly family who can be a little unstable on their feet at times, so we thought that it might be worth putting in flush ones just to eliminate any potential accidents. Maybe we will just have to go with standard ones.

Not that I’m suggesting you do this, but there is a video on the forum somewhere of someone actually sinking a surface mount external socket into the wall.

That did get a few laughs

I remember that. Yeah, don't try and sink one in. It won't end up pretty!

Jesus, pass the eye bleach. That’s the first time I’ve seen it; and wow???

Back to the OP.

external sockets don’t stick out too much, and when they’re in use, the trailing flexes will cause more hazards than the socket with the lid shut.

Good design can position the sockets to minimise leads crossing walkways
