if anyone can help i'd be very grateful.

Q. when carrying out an insulation resistance test between live conductors of the socket outlet, a short circuit is discovered.

a) describe how you would perform a test to determine the location of the fault within the damaged cable.

b) describe the action to be taken to rectify this fault

thank is advance

jamie :)

As you probably know, copper wire has a resistance, based on the CSA, and the length of conductors.
With the damaged conductors, disconnected at each end, you shold be able to calculate the distance from the end of the conductor to the short circuit by dividing the measured resistance by the value of resistance per meter given in for instance GN3. Measure from both ends, and split the difference.
