every time I turn on the ring main, mcb the rcd trips i've crossed over line and neutral at cu and tested each socket reading between 0.5 and 1.5 ohms. please help

need a bit more info. have you done IR test with everything unplugged?

As said above (need a bit more info. have you done IR test with everything unplugged?) also check if the rcd is still tripping when you've turned on the ring main when every bit of current using equipment has been removed from the ring main. This will then show you if the fault is an appliance or the circuitry. Once you've found out post again on here and you'll be able to obtain more information.

All the best!

If anyone can guess the right answer after the first post, they get 10 points

Be warned the next piece of info/clue posted will be worth only nine :)

if he's done a cu change, bet its a neutral in the wrong bar ( not a gay bar )

sorry about the lack of info I went to bed early
yes i have just replaced with dual rcd split board for the first 2 days everything worked fine then 1 rcd tripped turned it back on and just kept tripping, I have unplugged every thing out of the ring main and it still trips no i have not done ir since tripping

i have now connected the ring main bypassing the rcd and it works but would prefer it to be on rcd as i have my elecsa assessment coming

so that elimimates the wrong bar theory. need to IR each circuit on that RCD. also test the RCD including ramp test. if you have got an earth leakage clamp meter that could speed up the process.

Thats the first thing you should be doing mate.

bad connection on line. probably in a socket or JB. that will cause the inbalance methinks.
