Hi Guys, I work for a maintenance company and just had a call out to attend tomorrow at a TK Maxx store. The info I have been given is that the store lights are not turning off when the alarm is set by the manager at closing. I know all these stores use building management systems and I just wanted to see if anyone has come across this before and if it is easy to rectify?

I just dont want to do a 6 hour round trip if this needs to be fixed by a bms expert.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Lighting will be via a contactor or 2 or more.

It's common to use contactors with normally closed contacts so in the event of a BMS fail, the lights fail to on, or in some situations the on time is greater than the off time.

When closed and the alarm is set the contactor(s) energise to turn off the lights.
The possible fault is then obvious.

Yeh bms is more for plant for cch etc, nothing to do with lighting mate, likes shanky said check contactors or maybe time clocks.

Lots of shops have this sort of set up, by the sounds of what you have is some relays connected to the burglar alarm which turns all store lights off when its set. Tazz would probably be the best man to help you.

I should imagine its like the panels in other store I have worked in with timers to control the lighting with contactors that turn of the main lighting and just the cleaners lighting left on , when these are worked on at night you over ride the time clock to keep them on , the only thing is you have to remember to reset it back otherwise lights stay on all the time , the alarm is linked in as well , so when you set the alarm it also knocks the lights out , I would check to see if anybody has done any work there recently…..

I'd say contactors controlled from out put of alarm but doesn't mean lights arnt affected by bms controls aswell, you just need to find out how its controlled and start there.

Should be fun or will get it straight away

The panels I have worked on have the control as I already mentioned and the alarm input as well , its usually the case someone else has come in and over ridden the clock or latched the contactor in over ride , as I said check nobody else has messed with it , maybe the cleaners or someone during the night ,
