Hi there was called to a job with fault finding on a ring 120v on one socket 190 on the other the guy had been doing some work in the kitchen by removing a socket and joint it straight through now it leaves the board as a radial so I had taken one socket of getting voltage on the earth and when I isolated the circuit one of the neutral was live and the rcd hasent tripped either weird one

Out of interest, how would removing a socket and jointing it straight through mean the ring became a radial? Apologies if I've misunderstood.

So is it a ring or a radial???

First port of call would be where someone has been recently working, if it’s a recent fault.
Could be loose cable, faulty socket… anything.
Guy done his own downlights and put screws through lots of cables joined them himself then tiled the floor upstairs so I can’t get access to the joints plus leaking radiator which he had a shock off he’s loves diy but iam not sure it’s for him

Looks like it's time for some big holes in the ceiling and replacing all this guy's wiring.
