Thinking of branching out into fire alarm systems as Iv been doing a lot of HMOs and Iv been having a contractor in to undertake this. What qualifications do I need to add this to my portfolio

Our local supplier has a contact that will survey and do the designs for us and certificate our install as long as we get the materials from them.
Saves us the hassle (and responsibility) of the installation design.

I did premier training academy (NAPIT) course. Having looked around I think it is the most for the least. You get to do fire alarm commissioning, certification, installation and design and the same with emergency lighting. The catch? Well you have to buy the BS standards around six of them at little less the £1K. You simply cannot operate without them. With the qualy and BS standards you are in a position to go. That is assuming this is something you have already worked and had experience with. I don't think you could hop over from a six week course in electrics and do it you need the existing experience with these systems. Not saying you don't have just for others reading.

Fire alarm systems in an HMO can be a confused situation without the correct knowledge and experience. A two storey installation could consist of a Grade D, LD3 system throughout which is the most rudimentary set up. Three storeys and above could get more complicated, again you could have a Grade D, LD3 system with a Grade A system for the communal areas or a Grade A system throughout, the latter however could give rise to nuisance activation. Or you can opt for a LD2 system.
As in #2 the best option is for third party design if you are none to confident with the risk and design.
