The fire alarm in the hallway is to sensitive when cooking. It's old and needs changing anyway. It's a mains voltage smoke alarm.

I plan to replace it

is it a an ionisation one,if so try swopping for an optical or just a heat alarm

Yes it's an ionisation one.

Is optical defo less sensitive?

Definitely change to optical...

Ionisation sensors use a small radioactive source to detect the invisible smoke particles given off by fast-flaming, clean burning fires such as bedding and clothing, however they can be prone to false alarms from cooking fumes if fitted near kitchens.

Optical sensors use an infra-red beam to detect smoke. They detect smoke from slow, smouldering fires such as electrical fires & are less prone to false alarms from cooking fumes if fitted in the hallway next to kitchen.

Yes

But it needs changing so best to choose one that is less sensitive
