Getting a porch light fitted. Should the hole into the house be sealed with fire sealant? I know outside, at an upward angle and sealed to stop water. Light will be on brick wall outside and cable across cavity into house. Maybe paranoid? Given it's an old house (1970) I'd imagine there are more important things to worry about but worth knowing what sparky should be doing if that's the law.

Fire stopping regulations are more about internal spread from room to room, or across party walls/ floors to other properties. However, it does no harm to consider the consequences of fire travelling from one side of the hole to the other. Is there a shed or storage or bins etc. that , if on fire, could spread the fire into your porch? Could a fire in your porch spread to any external area? (Very unlikely in both cases for the majority of external lights).

There are seperated regulations regarding oil storage tanks or gas cylinders with regards to fire stopping from the building. But if you have neither of these against your porch then I don't think you need to take any special precautions.
