I have a sump pump in a hot tub pit for when it rains. However I’d like to know if there is a plug that tells me when the pump is on. I.e flashing led. Because I’ve had a couple burn out when they’ve stayed on when the pits empty. I’ve bought a different sump pump now but a flashing indicator would really help

What level controls do you have on the pump or controlling the pump
It’s a karcher SP7 with the prongs that triggers it on / off. I had the float switch model before but they didn’t work well and stayed on. I want it to be stay automatic on/off but if I notice a light flashing for too long I can go investigate.

The issue I see here is that if the pump runs dry it will almost certainly burn itself out before you notice the flashing light or manage to get to it.
If it’s running/flashing for more than 5 mins i would know something isn’t right.
Also when it does rain and I’m expecting it to turn on, when it doesn’t flash I can go and turn it on manually before it ruins the hot tub connections.

Ok thanks, I was hoping there would be a simple 13a plug that I could just swap it with, just to indicate when it’s drawing power.
I'm not aware of any such plug in device that flashes a light when current is being drawn, other than the type of device I posted. I know of a wi-fi immersion heater programmer that flashes a light when power is being drawn, but I suspect your pump may not draw enough to trigger it, and the device has to be wired into the cables, and be used to turn it on!

You can buy a plug in energy monitor, but that will have a screen displaying energy use, and you would have to look carefully to see if the figures are changing or stationary. Not exactly a simple warning device!

Could you fit a water level alarm so when it was down below a safe level for the pump, it would warn you? Better still - make that turn off the supply to the pump!

Here's a possible plug-in solution. I haven't tried this particular product so I've no idea whether it's any good, really just using it as an example. Plug the pump into the master socket and a warning light of your choice into the slave socket:
See similar devices by googling 'master slave power strip'

OTOH what you really want is a reliable pump with a reliable float switch that just works, backed up by an independent high level alarm switch and a watchdog timer for pump running too long, that sound an alarm if either of the two failure modes occurs. All this is getting away from your search for a plug-in solution though.

Sound activated switch?

A water level alarm is a great idea. I’ve found this and it looks like it’s exactly what I need High Water Level Flood Alarm Siren 100dB + Power Supply+ 4M Long Sensor Wires | eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125324575821?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Mb6XBbaERje&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=jooAN4V-QTu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

It won’t tell me if the pumps stuck ON but it will tell me if the pumps not working. I’d rather replace a 150£ pump than a hottub.

Thank you all
