Hi chaps,
a friend of mine has quite a few Fluke 1652's , I myself always use Megger.
My nephew now works for his firm, and uses as I do a 1552.
On testing a block of flats he gets readings in excess of 17ka (low eli etc)
His boss tells him the meter isn't giving the correct reading.
I have had on quite a few occasions high pfc's and have given reasons as to why you can have such readings, obviously there is a transformer close by, and being a council install, has an excellent spec.
Also, told him that the readings are more likely to be in the region of 7ka due to inherent character of the meter.
The thing is,,, his boss's meters never give a reading more than 4ka
He has about 30 lads and like I say, they never go over the 4ka mark.
I'm not sure about Fluke, but when testing do they have to do anything different, ie, join e-n leads or is the 20a rather than 25a test current anything to do with it ?

I know I'm right, but at the same time, my friend, who's been in the game as long as I have, is adamant that my nephew isn't testing correctly.

Can any body shed some light on Fluke testers and testing efli - pfc

CHEERS

Hi..........lets see if this helps you understand what reading you should be getting. Take your Ze reading and a good reading would be say 0.06 ohms

230v divided by 0.06 ohms = 3833A or 3.8 ka

So a reading of 17ka seems very high to me too

No, we're talking eli of 0.01 or 0.02
Voltage reads 247v

Dpon't forget the tx is very close.

Have you ever tested between phases on a Three phase system ?

How do you test between phases? for your PFC.

My understanding of the test is........ Test all the phases to earth and the highest PFC is multiplied by 2.

There isnt to my knowledge an actual 3 phase test with the fluke meter?

Mark, I should of elabarated that remark, " have you ever tested between phases on a Three phase system using a Megger 1552 ? "
