Hi All,

there are several threads on here about cable tracers with a very mixed bag of reviews/opinions about them.
Has anyone used them in similar circumstances to below & if so how did they perform?

I've been asked to carry out a full validation survey & produce a distribution schematic of an occupied building prior to the refurbishment of the landlords areas & 75% of the tenanted areas. The building is part commercial & part residential, we cannot isolate anything & there is very little in the way of circuit identification or labelling & the latest EICR is next to useless. Will I be able to identify/trace circuits back to their outgoing protective device using a cable tracer or are they simply not accurate enough to find the individual device in a multi way TP&N DB?

Cheers

Hi SELspark

been using Fluke Teli Pro for my Network cables but has been a absolute god send looking for cables that are missing & tracing circuits at consumer unit, 2 crock clips & audible sound great works a treat.

No you will not.

In my experience there garbage and I've tried a few. Had me going back to the wrong distribution board, would indicate an MCB so switched it off and was the wrong one.

The only way you can rightly trace the circuits is to turn them off and see what goes off.
