I have to run a new Distribution Cable to feed an additional consumer unit that will be approx 20metres from the main intake. Question is which end of the run should I install the 60/80Amp cutout fuse - next to the new consumer unit or near the intake. My thought would be, near the intake as the fuse is supposed to protect the new cable!!!!! is this correct?????

I agree as well, protection must always come from the distribution board you intend taking power from other wise you are relying on on fused protection els where that may be over rated for the cabel being put in

Hi.

As said it must go at intake end any sub over 2m must have a switchfuse installed.

It also makes it easier to connect in at the intake anyway.
