I've noticed the date they are available keeps getting delayed, when I first noticed them it was December, then January, now Februrary. I can't believe they are selling so fast that the stock gets cleaned out. Unless of course they anticipate such low demand that they only order in one or two!

Same happened when they announced DP RCBOs. None were available for sale, but wholesalers were advertising them in anticipation of (significantly delayed) release.

At least the AFDD are the same DP switching as the their newer RCBO, same as for Wylex.

In fact I suspect most of the innards are basically the RCBO, but with a little extra to trip on arc noise as well as residual current. It would be interesting to see a parts breakdown to explain the cost difference!

There are one or two videos of Crabtree/Wylex units being dismantled - I think Efixx posted one.

I suspect the R&D costs will be a more significant portion of the product cost than the actual bill of materials additions.

I am not convinced the "shall" will replace "recommend" in amendment 2. I have just had my NICEIC audit and the engineer has intimated they are considering a delay in implementation?
Further more having fitted several and experimented with 3, at my own property. I am disappointed at the level of current (approx. 4 +Amperes) to get a series trip. I am not to concerned about Parallel arc faults in domestic situations as we use T/E, the cpc being in the middle would cause the RCBO to trip sooner than the AFDD (at approx. 4 + A).
For you observant ones I have not fitted an AFDD on the cooker as it only supplies a 3A FCU for the ignition on the gas cooker. The lighting circuits are all LED so little chance of pulling $ Amperes + to enable an AFDD to trip. In my risk assessment and NICEIC engineer concurred.

Informative post, but all that money spent and you fit the clip in lid blanks rather than full module ones! Why?!
