Discuss fused isolation in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

It's desirable to have an isolator at the origin of the install, doesn't matter if it's a fused switch or just an isolator. This would be in addition to the main switch in the CU. It's especially handy if the tails are split and there are two CUs for example.

sounds like you are basically using a switched fuse as a 1 way CU. as long as the outgoing cable is correctly protected, i see nothing wrong with that idea.

Sorry for delay getting back to you, just had a freakin smart meter fitted. I'd agree with Tel, at the end of the day as long as the cable is adequately protected, then what's the issue?

Do your tails keep falling out? Hammer a wedge-shaped bit of bean-tin into the terminal and it should keep them there. That's my usual solution.

PS, make sure to use a wooden mallet, not a metal hammer!
